America Reads - Volunteer

The Weber County Library’s America Reads program relies mostly on the help of volunteers. For years we have partnered with many members of the community and the Foster Grandparent Program of Northern Utah, and in 2022 a new partnership with RSVP allowed us to expand our services.

This year we have the opportunity to offer sessions from June 2-July 24, 2025 at all our locations, Monday-Thursdays, 10:30 a.m.-7:30 p.m. (*Ogden Valley Branch, Wednesdays and Thursdays only, 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.). There will be an appreciation ceremony to honor volunteers August 1, 2025.

As an America Reads volunteer you will:

• Tutor kids one-on-one for 30-minute, in-person reading sessions.
• Give feedback on the student’s performance to parents or guardians when needed.
• Accept all students without reservation or judgment.
• Create a safe and positive learning environment.
• Have fun!

America Reads volunteers should be:

• Willing to undergo a background check
• 18 years or older
• Fluent in English
• Able to commit to scheduled times for the duration of the eight-week program

Volunteer training dates:

Pleasant Valley Branch: Tuesday, April 29, 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
North Branch: Wednesday, April 30, 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
Southwest Branch: Thursday, May 1, 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
Ogden Valley Branch: Thursday, May 1, 4:00-6:00 p.m.
Main Library: Saturday, May 3, 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
